Unique Chinese Apothecary Cabinet, Shanxi - 19th Century

The labels have been changed many times over the years, with one layer placed over another. Each label lists the different natural minerals and herbs that the practitioner mixed for each patient.

32 small drawers make up the bulk of the cabinet, below which are six larger drawers that complete the storage space.

Each drawer is deep and hand calligraphed; the calligraphy is original. The sublime patina, left by a worn lacquer, makes it a piece
timeless and charismatic.
