Old 3 legged stool Dagara tribe #17 - Burkina Faso

As is true throughout the Western Sudan, men's chairs have three legs, and women's chairs or stools have four legs. Women's stools are generally smaller than men's chairs, for they are used when women sit before the cooking fire to prepare a meal.
Old chairs are treasured as mementos and are passed from generation to generation until the legs have been abraded away.
Original hand carved stool from Burkina Faso. Beautiful modern shape with traditional tapered legs. Amazingly carved from one solid piece of indigenous hardwood. This stool is aged beautifully by use and exposure and the "head" gives it the appearance of a tortoise or turtle.
