After finishing the design academy Eindhoven in 2003, Christien Meindertsma (1980) started her own design label flocks. By analysing the history of the cordage industry, she has reduced the ropery to the original Dutch material: flax. Using the flax from a Dutch farmhouse, the filaments are spun in flax yarns, after which these are twisted into strands.
The Flax rug 110 meter is a hand-made spiral rug, which is part of the Flax Project. The rough and simple object, the Flax rug aims to bring back the use fibrous plant in the Netherlands. The Flax rug is one of the objects that highlight the humble plants.
