Guanabana's beautiful collection came about thanks to the hands of hundreds of Wayuu women in Colombia.

The Wayuu are an indigenous people in the far north of Colombia. They live in small settlements called 'rancherias'. The woman is the pillar of the family and with her weavings is its main supporter and that of the community. 

According to a Wayuu legend, the Mochila tradition originated from 'Wale'kerü', a spider who taught the women how to weave their patterns into the Mochila bags. This legend shows how close the Wayuu live to nature. Each handwoven product has a story the Wayuu tells and describes their dreams and reflects their daily lives.

The art of making Mochila handbags is seen as a symbol of wisdom, intelligence and creativity. The art of weaving is passed down from mother to daughter.

The bag is entirely handmade, so there may be slight variations in design or size. Machine washable in cold water.
